The Real Reason Period Pain Happens (and Why Claire’s Pain Disappeared in 6 Weeks)

Let me start with something I need you to know:

Period pain is common. But it’s not normal.

 We’ve been told since we were 12 that cramping, migraines, mood swings, and bloating are just “part of being a woman.” That suffering is the price we pay for menstruating. But that isn’t the truth. It’s a belief we’ve inherited. One that keeps too many women stuck in pain for years—decades even—thinking there’s no other way. Let me show you another way. And to do that, let me tell you about Claire.

Claire’s Story

Claire came to me at 13 years old. She had just started her period a year before, and every month, she had to miss 3 days of school due to excruciating cramps. Her mum had worked with me before ( to stop her daily decades long migraines: which we did ) and knew that there was more we could do than just hand over painkillers. So we got to work.

  • Claire had four 1:1 - 60minute sessions with me across six weeks
  • She practiced a personalized 6-minute daily acupressure routine I created for her
  • At her next period, she had zero painafter an entire year of suffering .

That was over a year ago. She remained pain-free for 15 months.

The Real Root of Period Pain (According to TCM)

 In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), menstrual pain is not treated as a standalone symptom. It’s seen as the result of imbalance in the flow of Qi (energy) through the body—specifically in the liver and spleen meridians.

Here’s a simplified breakdown: 🩸 The Liver Meridian:

  • Regulates the smooth flow of Qi and blood throughout the body
  • If the Liver Qi becomes stagnant, it creates tension, irritability, cramping, and sharp abdominal pain

 🍽️ The Spleen Meridian:

  • Governs digestion and fluid balance
  • When weak, it leads to bloating, water retention, brain fog, and emotional heaviness.

 When these meridians are out of balance—often from chronic stress, emotional repression, or poor digestion—you get the perfect storm:

  • Painful cramps • Mood swings
  • Breast tenderness • Headaches
  • Exhaustion

 So How Did Claire Heal? Instead of suppressing the symptoms, I supported her body’s natural systems using:

✨ 1. Acupressure I taught her to press specific points on her body connected to the liver and spleen meridians. Just 6 minutes a day of stimulation helped:

  • Move stuck energy • Reduce inflammation • Calm the nervous system • Prevent blood stagnation

 ✨ 2. Qigong + Somatic Movement These movements gently open the energy channels. In Claire’s case, we focused on  breath-coordinated moves to ease abdominal tension and increase energy circulation. ( because if you're sitting, all the time, you abdominal area becomes stuck, stuck fascia, stuck tissue, stuck organs)

✨ 3. Simple, 1 minute Breathwork  This helps: • Calm the fight-or-flight response • Relieve spasms and constriction • Release the diaphragm! This is what we did in our 1:1 sessions, her daily homework was just the 6 minute acupressure routine. It wasn’t overwhelming. It was consistent. That’s what made all the difference.
