This is part 1 of my frozen Shoulder mini-series-where each week I'll share a simple, effective tool to get your arm (and your energy) moving again. All under 3 minutes.
Let's start with what happened to me...perhaps you can relate...
A few months ago, I started having some pain around my elbow, some swelling as well. At first, I blamed my work, showing clients how to use acupressure everyday can take its toll on the thumb and arm.
Then, I thought it might be my workouts. I went to the doc, he sent me to get a scan-mild tendonitis was the diagnosis- just rest they said.
So I did, I was careful, I stopped working out, the pain was almost gone. Then, a few weeks ago, a dull pain appeared on my upper arm, then an all-too-familiar tightness in my shoulder, then a sharper pain when I tried moving my arm is specific way. I tried to figure out what was happening and realized, I'd been working long hours, at my dinning table, laptop too high, chair too low, elbow unsupported. Ouf! I knew why. It was going to be ok.
Sound familiar?
I started working on the couch, laptop on my actual lap and brushed it off.- until one night I woke up from the pain in my shoulder and upper arm. It hurt to sleep. It hurt to move. It hurt to stretch. The irony? I'm a Shiatsu therapist who teaches this stuff! ( Even your healing bestie gets caught out sometimes) Cause you can only band aid a symptom for so long...........it was time to fix this pain from the root.
So, I went back to my tools-acupressure and gentle somatic movement- just 1minute, 2-3 times a day. Within a week, my arm was lifting freely again. No dull pain, I'm back to sleeping on my side! There's still a little way to go till I get the complete range of motion back, so I'm continuing on this 1-minute acupressure reset for another couple of weeks.
This made me think of my past client ( hello Sylvia) and all the women recently messaging me about their shoulder pain-many of them perimenopausal just like you.
So here we are.
Let's start with the reset that helped me the most..

Here's what to do
1. Lift your arm and take note of when the pain starts.
2. Breathe in through the nose out through the mouth and smile to yourself( yes, seriously-it helps)
3. Use your thumb to press or press each acupressure point for 60seconds
4. Don't hold your breath
5.This will take you ONLY 2.5 minutes. Now, lift your arm again and see how high it will go before the pain begins. I bet, it'll go higher than before!
And this will be your proof that acupressure works. And this will be your incentive to spend less than 3 minutes a day ( or multiple times a day) healing your frozen/ painful shoulder.
6. Now give yourself another rewarding big smile, teeth showing and all!
