The reason you burnout by February: and what to do about it!
Jan 08, 2025Why I Don't Believe in New Year's Resolutions (and What You Should Do Instead)
Have you ever set New Year's resolutions, only to feel burnt out and deflated by February? Yeah, me too! Every year, we get bombarded with "New Year, New Me" videos/articles, "How To's" to make and stick to our resolutions and millions of people fall into this trap. Only to struggle to stick to their goals, and there's a good reason why: January is simply not the time to push yourself into overdrive.
Winter is a season for rest, reflection, and renewal. Nature slows down, and so should we. Instead of setting overly ambitious goals, adopt a more sustainable approach to self-care and personal growth. Just like I tell you to try 1minute routines because they're DOABLE..well, that's how I approach my goal setting THE WHOLE YEAR ROUND. Small actions, lead to big shifts.
Here's why traditional New Year's resolutions often fail-and what you can do differently to thrive:
Why Traditional Resolutions Don't Work in Winter
Winter is a time when our bodies and minds crave nourishment, warmth, and rest. Yet, resolutions often demand immediate change, high energy, and hustle. This sets us up for the perfect storm leading to frustration and burnout; feeling like you're just not enough! Well...you know I don't buy any of THAT, and neither should you!
Instead of fighting against the natural rhythm of winter, align with it. Use this time to:
• Rest deeply and recharge without guilt.
- Nourish yourself with warm, comforting foods and drinks. Please ease or stop completely all those ICED drinks, they drain you.
- Move your body gently, focusing on 10-15 minutes of movement to nurture, not exhaust, yourself.
When we follow nature's patterns, we honour our well-being and the cycles of life, we create a foundation that allows us to flourish in the spring.
A Better Approach to Winter Wellness
Rather than setting resolutions that feel overwhelming, try small, sustainable, bite size habits that prioritize self- care:
- Hydrate regularly. Your body will thank you.
- Rest when you need it. Permission granted!
- Embrace and enjoy mindful movement. Gentle somatic movement, stretching, or a walk can do wonders.
If you're ready to start your day in a way that truly supports your body, mind, and spirit, I've created a free 3-minute morning routine just for you. It's designed to help you feel refreshed, centered, and energized-all in harmony with the season.
Last but not least, I want you to know that You've Got this! And I've got you!
